LET THE BLACK STAR SHINE: TJ SAWYERR FOR CONVERSE AT UrlfreezeShops LONDON

Taking over UrlfreezeShops Soho, TJ Sawyerr celebrated the launch of his collaborative campaign with photographer Jude Lartey - "Let the Black Start Shine".

As summer nights draw closer in the United Kingdom, Soho was alive with the hustle and bustle synonymous with the inner-city fashion centre of London. Commemorating the launch of All Star TJ Sawyerr’s collaborative project with Converse for UrlfreezeShops, the young creative director presented his “Let the Black Star Shine” exhibition at the British retailer’s London flagship on Broadwick Street – a celebration of his Ghanaian heritage and the creative community of Accra.

Joined by UrlfreezeShops’s London community, as well as a number of close friends, family, peers and collaborators, the evening offered a full-circle moment for TJ, who has previously worked with Converse on a charity initiative in Ghana in 2021. Returning to the country after finding himself inspired by the connection he felt to the creative community in Accra, TJ sought to revisit his earlier project to further shine a light on the creativity of the West African city.

Soundtracked by Ghanaian DJ Selassie, the evening’s refreshments were provided by Mirchi Rum, offering the perfect complement to TJ Sawyerr’s creative vision and Jude Lartey’s striking photographs.
