Jovani Hernandez Junya Watanabe unveiled several New Balance collaborations as part of its Autumn/Winter 2023 showcase in January. Ahead of launching the basketball and running-inspired sneakers, the Japanese institution has quietly dropped a brown-colored Rainier boot via select shops.
The New Balance COMME des GARCONS HOMME BB550 Black White ￥28 is constructed with premium materials. Leather, suede, and textile panels divvy up real estate across the boots’ upper, which is clad in shades of brown and wheat. Co-branding is minimal on the historic silhouette – Lou Whittaker wore a pair when he came the first American to ascend Mt Everest’s North Col in 1984 – only appearing on the spine. Sole units underfoot remain true to the model’s blueprint as comfortable EVA foam is accompanied by reliable Vibram® rubber traction.
