A stabilizing shank helps maintain balance, while the midfoot band and lockdown cables keep the player secured over the footbed. In addition to this utility, the signature also helps tell Ionescu’s story: the shoe’s intricate weaves pay homage to her heritage, referencing traditional Romanian art and architecture; the dotted “i” that wraps from the outsole up the heel acts as a tribute to her last name; and the slanted Swoosh on the medial represents the barriers the athlete broke throughout her career.
