How long is a Ragnar Race?

Ragnar has a running experience perfect for everyone! You can take on the miles with a standard team size or if you’re itching for an even bigger challenge you can run double the miles as an ultra team! Enjoy an unforgettable weekend at an overnight trail or road race or take on a sprint race for the experience of a Ragnar compressed into a single day.

Road: 200-ish total miles

How does a Ragnar Race work?

Ragnar races have three different formats: road, trail and sprint. Each format offers a different challenge, so you can find the right race for you!

Road: You’ll run day and night—and day again!

Teams of 12 (Regular) or 6 (Ultra) run a combined 200ish miles from point A to point B through city streets, country roads, sidewalks, and bike paths. You’ll run day, and night, and day again, sleeping (ha ha) in vans, grassy fields, or perhaps a high school gym (with the principal’s permission).

Each teammate will run three separate legs of the race, with downtime in between, for a total of 11 to 24 miles per runner (twice that for ultra teams). After the final pass of the baton—er, slap bracelet—you’ll cross beneath the iconic orange arch together, dripping with … pride.

Trail: Run, camp, sleep, repeat… for 2 days!

Teams of 8 (Regular) or 4 (Ultra) run 120ish miles—in three repeating loops—on wilderness trails that wind through forests, valleys, and mountainsides. You’ll run day, and night, and day again, sleeping (yeah right) in a temporary tent city known as Ragnar Village.

Each teammate completes each race loop once—green, yellow, and red—with breaks in between, for a total of 15ish miles per runner (twice that for ultra teams). Elevation is inevitable. And so are breathtaking views.

Sprint: All the fun of a road race packed into one day. You’ll sleep in your own bed, hallelujah!
