Carrying ID with you when you hit the road is a good play-it-safe/always-be-prepared idea. Stashing a credit card with your license is a smart tactic, too. It makes it super-easy to stop in a convenience store for water or sports drink mid-run so you can extend your mileage without bonking.

It also makes it possible for you to join your crew for post-run drinks at the coffee shop. And, if you use the BuyPower Card® you'll earn 5 percent in Earnings for the first $5,000 you spend on purchases every year and an unlimited 2 percent Earnings on every purchase after that. Earnings are redeemable towards the purchase or lease of any new Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, or Cadillac vehicle.

Here are simple ways to stash your must-haves when you’re logging miles.

Zippered Wristband or Armband

A relic from another era is the terry-cloth wristband. Several companies are making a modernized version with a zippered pocket to secure your essentials in a soft, stretchy pouch on your forearm. It's also handy to wipe your brow or even your nose—yes, these are washable.

If you are also looking to stash your phone, consider buying a fully-waterproof armband. The snug fit against your bicep won't affect your stride, but will protect your valuables while giving you easy access to your screen to switch music or hit start and stop on your running app.

Stick-On Wallet

You don’t go anywhere without your phone. Which means you don’t have to go anywhere without your wallet. Buy a pocket on the back of your phone, and the key contents of your wallet will always be with you. Many of these pouches stretch enough to hold multiple cards, and they are designed to fit on the back of any device, whether you have an Apple or Android. They are lightweight and come in many colors and designs. Look for one with anti-slip material to prevent your cards from falling out.

Running Belt or Pouch

These aren’t your Grandma’s fanny pack. Belts and waistbands have come a long way. They are designed to be sleeker and more streamlined to fit snugly but comfortably around your waist without annoying bouncing or chafing. They are pretty roomy, giving you a place to also stash a key or Fob and gels and your phone.

Shoe Wallet

It’s often said that the only thing you need to run is a pair of running shoes. Now you can make your shoes an even more valuable piece of gear. Shoe wallets securely attach to the laces of your shoe, and come with a Velcro closure to keep your goods safe and sound. Most are roomy enough to also fit a key or Fob, and some feature reflective tape as an extra feature.

Hidden Pockets

Invest in gear with secure, zippered pockets. Sure, jackets are a no-brainer; top layers always come with multiple places to zip up essentials. But that’s not your only option. Shorts, tights, and even sports bras come with secured pockets where you can easily slip in essential cards to carry. Longer compression shorts often have pockets along the sides that keep your carry-ons secure and tight against the body to prevent jostling.

Plastic Baggie

If you’re an ultra-minimalist, all-weather runner, your protect-and-serve gear is right in your kitchen pantry. A plastic baggie can keep your phone (and other essentials) safe from the elements, and you can still access your apps through the bag. If you’re headed out in a decent rain (or you’re extra-paranoid), it’s wise to also put a piece of absorbent fabric, like a paper towel, or silica packets inside the baggie; that could help soak up moisture if a few drops do accidentally get in the bag.
