Silicon Valley Turkey Trot
All About RunDisney 2025.
Thanksgiving Day races are hot to trot, with more than 1,000 events on the calendar in 2015. According to Running USA, an organization that tracks running trends, Thanksgiving has surpassed the Fourth of the July as the most popular day to run a race, meaning there’s probably an event—or several—near you.
This shouldn’t be a big surprise. Races offer participants a fun, festive way to ease the caloric damage from the Thanksgiving Day feast while contributing to local charities and earning runners some turkey-centric swag along the way. Here, our favorite picks—broken down into the oldest, most competitive, best swag, best multi-distance, and best scenery—nbsp;5K, 10K, Half Marathon.
Oldest: Buffalo YMCA Turkey Trot
Where: Buffalo, New York
Distance: 8K

In 2015, there were 12,834 finishers. (Like huge crowds when you race? Get Your Spot for the NYRR Brooklyn Half.) Nothing has stopped this race from starting since it began in 1896, including a freak blizzard in 2000 where Buffalo Mayor Anthony Masiello had to order the streets cleared for the race. Oldest: Western & Southern Thanksgiving Day Race
Distance: 10K

Since then it’s grown to nearly 18,000 participants and is in its 107th year. The sixth-oldest road race in the country and the Midwest’s oldest, the race covers three cities, three bridges, and the two states of Northern Kentucky and Ohio before culminating in a festive party. Children can now participate in the Turkey Day fun and run or walk in the new, noncompetitive McDonald's Kid Run that finishes before the start of the 10K. The course does a loop on second street, which allows the kids to start and finish the race under the official race banners—just like Mom and Dad. Temperatures at the starting line—at Paul Brown Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bengals—are usually around (or below) freezing, making warm-weather gear quite necessary. (thanksgivingdayrace.com)
