Runner’s World Review
Replacing the Enigma as Mizuno’s top-tier cushioned trainer, the Sky is going up against plush rides like the Asics Gel-Nimbus and Nike Air Zoom Vomero. That’s unusual territory for the brand, which has been more commonly associated with a performance feeling—its shoes were always a little firmer for a fast feeling. But underfoot, it delivers. Both the heel and forefoot are heavily padded, thanks to two layers of foam that run the length of the shoe—the bottom layer is segmented, so each individual pod can crush independently upon landing for a smooth, soft stride.

We put each shoe through real-world usage and a battery of mechanical tests in our lab to provide you with objective — and exclusive — data. In addition to a shoe's weight, we measure sole thickness (everything that sits between your foot and the road), how well the foam cushions your stride, and the flexibility of the forefoot. All this is taken into account in our reviews of each shoe.
