Runner’s World Review
This longtime favorite racing flat is versatile enough for everything from a road mile to the marathon (for efficient runners). A single, full-length block of foam delivers a responsive ride when you turn on the speed. The heel is quite soft for such a lightweight shoe, and the outsole puts a lot of rubber in contact with the road for excellent grip. This version gets an engineered mesh upper, reducing seams and locking the foot firmly in place. Try before you buy: Across the board our testers had to go up a half-size.

We put each shoe through real-world usage and a battery of mechanical tests in our lab to provide you with objective — and exclusive — data. In addition to a shoe's weight, we measure sole thickness (everything that sits between your foot and the road), how well the foam cushions your stride, and the flexibility of the forefoot. All this is taken into account in our reviews of each shoe.
