Runner’s World Review
Award Winner: Editor’s Choice
Named after ultrarunner Karl “Speedgoat” Meltzer, director of a rugged 50K race in Utah by the same name, the Speedgoat is all about grip and long-run cushioning over tough terrain. Testers appreciated the roomy fit and the new engineered mesh, especially toward the end of long training runs, when feet swell. The shoe excels on loose ground, with a Vibram Megagrip outsole that has many curved lugs.

We put each shoe through real-world usage and a battery of mechanical tests in our lab to provide you with objective — and exclusive — data. In addition to a shoe's weight, we measure sole thickness (everything that sits between your foot and the road), how well the foam cushions your stride, and the flexibility of the forefoot. All this is taken into account in our reviews of each shoe.
