Runner’s World Review
The new HOVR Sonic is a no-frills, lightweight, cushioned trainer that easily connects to an app to keep track of your running history and stats.
This new shoe from UA connects to the Map My Run (iOS or Android) application to track such running vitals such as speed, distance, cadence, and stride length.
The sensor is built into the midsole of the right shoe, just under the arch. Our testers didn’t notice the sensor and found the app easy to connect to the shoe.
It features a bouncy layer of the new HOVR foam from heel to forefoot. The upper is knit without any overlays, so there’s little chance of irritation and is reinforced over the midfoot to keep your foot locked in place.

We put each shoe through real-world usage and a battery of mechanical tests in our lab to provide you with objective — and exclusive — data. In addition to a shoe's weight, we measure sole thickness (everything that sits between your foot and the road), how well the foam cushions your stride, and the flexibility of the forefoot. All this is taken into account in our reviews of each shoe.
