I’m used to dressing up for the trails to handle the terrain ahead with as much covered up as the weather permits me, but I’d never thought to try truly short, racing-style shorts before the Rabbit FKT 3” Race Split shorts off of concrete or track surfaces. Split-seamed shorts were my go-to for road racing, but for some reason it never occurred to me to try them on the trail. I had no idea that I was missing out on so much. I was able to fly in these bad boys on all terrains without my stride getting disrupted or my agility being limited. With summer ahead, these will certainly be in my rotation when I take my runs off the road—and here’s more reasons why.

Storage Galore

Shorts with an inseam always make me feel more naked on my legs when I run, and it is actually better that way. Sure, I don’t want that feeling all the time, but when I want to feel fast, a feature like the 3-inch inseam on these shorts will let my legs fly without messing with my stride. What’s even better is that though these shorts are small, they can hold a ton thanks to two side pockets, a rear zipper pocket, and a small internal pocket for bringing whatever you need with you for hours on the trail. What I love most though is the comfort. The waistband is noticeably larger than what you see on most shorts, but it’s made out of a snugly spandex material that holds the shorts in place comfortably.

Verdict

I’ve yet to actually race in these shorts, though I have gone race pace We may earn commission from links on this page, but we only recommend products we back 50-miler in the near future. I won’t be going as fast as I can because I’m most likely going to be crawling at points, but with the storage capabilities, lightweight-feel, and agility abilities combined into one short, this is a no-brainer for trail runners.
