Hoka One One just launched a new version of its Clifton 4 road shoe in collaboration with the clothing brand Outdoor Voices. The shoe isn’t new, but the colorways are—the OV Clifton wraps the lightweight, max-cushion Clifton 4 in a techy, modern palette that should be familiar to anyone with a passing awareness of the activewear brand.
Here in Austin, where Outdoor Voices is headquartered, the company’s signature color-blocked, high-waisted tights and T-shirts bearing the OV slogan #DoingThings can be seen everywhere along the downtown trails and greenbelts. The brand’s message and products are designed to portray outdoor activity as more lifestyle than sport—athletics as relatable and achievable for all—while also appearing tailor-made for Instagram. Outdoor Voices says they teamed up with Hoka to bring a “tonal hue” to the brand’s running shoes, which matches the Outdoor Voices style of using multiple shades in the same color group.
If you like Hoka’s maximalist cushioning but weren’t a fan of its standard colorways, the OV Clifton colors are a bit more inventive—both more muted, like pale pink, and bolder, like “lemon chrome.” Like all Cliftons, the shoe packs a thick slab of cushioning into a deceptively lightweight (7.5 oz for a women’s size 7) package that’s ideal for daily distance training or recovery runs.
The OV Clifton has a mesh upper, 5mm heel-toe drop, and Hoka’s patented “Meta-Rocker,” which is designed to propel you into toe-off faster. The standard Clifton 4 won our award for “Best Update” when it came out in 2017 (full review here); Hoka’s most recent Clifton is the slightly revamped 5. The OV Clifton is available in men’s and women’s models for $140—find it now at outdoorvoices.com or hokeoneone.com.
