Off the bat, the HurtSkurt seems a little...cheesy. Not quite “infomercial level,” but close enough to the point where I was skeptical of its efficiency. Normally, my recovery treatment from my two previous ankle sprains involves holding a hot rag to ease my tendinitis flair up. While it’s not a very high-tech treatment, going out and buying a plug-in heating device was a hard no. So, after getting past my initial judgments, I decided to give the HurtSkurt a try and became enthralled with its versatility.
Secure and Convenient
One thing I love about the HurtSkurt is the fit. With three different sizes (small, medium, large), you don’t have to battle through strapping and unstrapping or balancing. It slides securely onto your problem area—arm, calf, or leg—based on the size you order.
The gels inside can be either frozen or heated. This is ideal for accident-prone runners like myself. When using the HurtSkurt, the only advice I have is this: Watch the time and read the instructions before throwing it into the microwave. It gets very hot very quickly.
The heating varies by size from 30 seconds to 1 minute; start with 15 to 20 seconds. Don’t overheat the HurtSkurt or the gels inside the fabric will explode, and lastly, wait for it to defrost before heating if you’re storing it in the freezer.
For the Multitasker
The stretch of the HurtSkurt makes it stay in place. You can easily get up and do something while it’s doing its job. The gels stay hot for about half an hour, and cold for 20 minutes. It has definitely become my preferred method of recovery. And when you’re no longer nursing a sore arm or leg, you can use the HurtSkurt as an actual koozie for your beverage. Cheers to that!
