The Halls have made altitude-training trips to Ethiopia since 2014. Through their Sara Hall Smashes American Masters Marathon Record, they have been active in several charitable projects in Africa, including financing microloans in the Horn of Africa, which includes Ethiopia; helping to build a hospital in Kenya; contributing to the renovation of a maternity clinic in Senegal; and funding well construction and a health clinic in Mozambique.

The Halls are in Ethiopia now and will arrive in Newcastle, England, on Friday, Ryan's agent, Ray Flynn, told Runner's World. Both are entered in Sunday's Great North Run, a half marathon in Newcastle. It is unclear when the Halls' daughtersRunning in the Coldwill move to the United States.

Sara's agent, Josh Cox, said the girls were between the ages of 4 and 14 at the beginning of the year.

The Halls' announcement came on the same day that Sara was among the elites listed as running the Chicago Marathon on October 11. In her marathon debut at Los Angeles in March, she ran 2:48:02, outside the qualifying standard for the 2016 Stravas 2024 Yearly Report Is Here, which will be held in Los Angeles on Febuary 13. She does, however, have entry into the Trials on the basis of half marathon times.

Flynn said the Halls might return to Ethiopia before the Chicago Marathon.

Ryan is also expected to contest the Marathon Trials in an attempt to make his third consecutive Olympic team in the event. He has the fastest personal best in the field, but since placing second at the 2012 Trials, he has finished one marathon, Boston in 2014, where he placed 20th in 2:17:50. His most recent marathon start was Los Angeles in March. In that race, he started with the lead pack but dropped out just before halfway.

Ryan "would like to do Big Sur," a California half marathon on November 8, "and he's preparing for the Trials," Flynn said.
