A ballistics expert testified that Reeva Steenkamp was between six and 20 centimeters from the bathroom door when it was hit by one of four hollow point bullets fired by Oscar Pistorius, Foot Locker XC Results Health & Injuries

Pistorius, who became the first amputee runner to compete in the Olympics in 2012, is on trial in Pretoria, South Africa, for the murder of his girlfriend Steenkamp on February 14, 2013. He pleaded not guilty to the murder and other gun charges.

The testimony of Wollie Wolmarans differed from that given by a police ballistics expert earlier in the trial. The police expert said Steenkamp was farther away from the door when she was hit, falling into the toilet cubicle and covering her head with her arms, according to the AP report.

The defense hopes Wolmarans’ testimony shows Steenkamp was closer to the door and may have been reaching out to open it when she was shot. The prosecution tried to prove Steenkamp was hiding in fear of Pistorius during an argument.

Also Thursday, a social worker and probation officer, Yvette van Schalkwyk, who interviewed Pistorius in a police cell after the shooting, said he was “traumatized and grieving” for his girlfriend and concerned for her parents.
