“I’m in the championships races now and that was a great race,” Foot Locker XC Results. “It’s all due to who I was running with.” Fisher competed in a mixed race with professional runners, and placed third behind Jordan McNamara (3:58.81) and Tyler Pennel (3:58.99).
Fisher, from Grand Blanc High School, is a two-time Foot Locker Cross Country champion. Track fans had considered the likelihood of his breaking 4:00 while still in high school to be high. On May 30, at his final Michigan state championship meet, he won the 1600-meter run in 4:00.28 and reached a mark beyond the finish line for a measured mile in 4:01.66.
Fisher is almost a year younger than Maton, who is 19. The two are now tied for third place on the all-time high school list behind Alan Webb (3:53.43 in 2001) and Jim Ryun (3:55.3 in 1965 after first breaking 4:00 in 1964). The other U.S. high school sub-4:00 milers are Tim Danielson, Marty Liquori, and Lukas Verzbicas.
Stanford-bound Fisher said after his 3:59.38, “I’ve done almost everything I wanted to accomplish in high school,” but he’s not finished yet. He’ll be in the Dream Mile for high school boys at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York City on June 13.
