the quest for sub-2
Dan Redding
Eliud Kipchoge
Nike / Clayton Cotterell
Kipchoge, along with the other runners, did treadmill tests at Nike headquarters earlier this month. The mask he’s wearing allows researchers to measure how much oxygen and carbon dioxide he’s inhaling and exhaling, enabling them to calculate his maximal aerobic capacity (VO2 max) and how much energy he burns at different running paces.
Lelisa Desisa
Nike / Clayton Cotterell
Desisa ran in an environmental chamber at Nike that simulates the conditions the athletes will likely face when they make the sub-two-hour attempt.\r\n
Zersenay Tadese
Nike / Clayton Cotterell
Tadese’s key vitals were recorded and measured during tests at Nike headquarters.
