A track coach was one of two people killed in a three-vehicle crash in east Texas on Thursday night.
A bus carrying members of a boys track team from the Mount Pleasant Independent School District was one of the vehicles involved, and 18 students on the bus were taken to a hospital with injuries, according to media reports.
Authorities say the bus was struck by an oncoming 18-wheeler. Angelica Beard, 30, an assistant coach for the girls track team, was driving a car behind the bus and was killed when the 18-wheeler struck her sedan. The driver of the 18-wheeler also died.
A coach who was driving the bus was among those hospitalized and was in critical condition Friday morning after undergoing surgery, according to KLTV.com.
Members of the girls track team were on a bus that was a few miles behind the boys’ bus and not involved in the crash. Both track teams were traveling back to Mount Pleasant after a meet in Paris, reports say.
