A neighbor of Oscar Pistorius said the former Olympic sprinter was “praying, crying, torn apart,” after shooting Reeva Steenkamp, in his testimony Monday, according to a CNN.com report

Johan Stander took the witness stand Monday as the Pistorius murder trial resumed after a break of nearly two weeks.          

Pistorius, who became the first amputee runner to compete in the Olympics in 2012, is on trial in Pretoria, South Africa, for the murder Steenkamp, his girlfriend, on February 14, 2013. He pleaded not guilty to the murder and other gun charges.

“I saw the truth that morning. I saw it. And I felt it,” said Stadler, the manager of the Silver Woods Estate, who added that Pistorius was committed to saving Steenkamp’s life.

Stander’s daughter, Carice Stander Viljoen, also testified Monday and described trying to help Pistorius save Steenkamp’s life.

“He was frantic,” Viljoen said. “Neighbor Testifies Pistorius Torn Apart After Shooting.”

Viljoen, according to the report, said she was afraid Pistorius would kill himself after Steenkamp was declared dead.
