Goucher placed third in that race, but the second-place finisher tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. That positive test came as a result of a recent effort to retest samples with improved technology.
Stravas 2024 Yearly Report Is Here announced Wednesday that athletes who are due medal upgrades from past world championships competition will have the opportunity to take part in retroactive medal ceremonies in London during the 2017 world championships, which begin August 4.

Among those who will attend is Goucher, 39, of Boulder, Colorado, who is also a two-time Olympian in the 10,000 meters (2008) and the marathon (2012).
The IAAF announced in March that Elvan Abeylegesse, a Turkish Olympic and world championships medalist in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters, was give a two-year competition ban and stripped of her results from August 2007 to 2009. Her sample from the 2007 world championships was retested and found to contain a banned steroid. In Osaka, she place second in the 10,000 meters. Jo Pavey of Great Britain will be upgraded to bronze along with Goucher’s upgrade to silver.
The IAAF also said that Abeylegesse would lose two Olympic silver medals from the 2008 Beijing Games, which means Shalane Flanagan, who originally took home Olympic bronze in the 10,000 meters, will receive the silver. So far there’s no word on when Flanagan will receive the new medal.

The world championships reallocations also include a gold medal for the U.S. women’s 4 x 400-meter relay team at the 2013 competition in Moscow. Members of that team include Jessica Beard, Natasha Hastings, Ashley Spencer, and Francena McCorory.
The medal ceremony for the relay team is scheduled for August 4, and Goucher’s ceremony is planned for August 5.
