Runner’s World Training Plan Supernatural, brothers Sam and Dean Winchester team up to fight otherworldly beings like demons and ghosts to help mankind. Off the small screen, the actors are doing their part to help the greater good, too. Their latest? To help fight childhood hunger by running the Seattle Marathon.
On November 25, Supernatural cast members ran the Seattle Marathon as part of the Bad Idea Tour. The cast teamed up with Random Acts’ Endure 4 Kindness, with the goal of feeding children in many of the poorest areas in the U.S. and across the world.
“We’ll endure 26.2 miles of pulled muscles, chafed nipples, and out-of-breath whining… but with your support, we’ll get over the finish line,” their Crowdrise page read.
The idea came from Misha Collins, who plays the angel Castiel on the show. At first, the cast thought it was a terrible plan—which is where the Bad Idea Tour name came from. But after coming to terms with it, the cast members announced their plan at the Creation Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, back in August.
It seems as though the actors had fun participating in this “Bad Idea.” Collins crossed the line in 4:42:46, and actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, who play brothers on the show, ran together and finished in 4:33:42 and 4:33:44. Rob Benedict, who plays God (Chuck Shurley), finished his first marathon in 5:29:56—which was especially meaningful, since he suffered a stroke five years ago.
Other stars from the show, crew members, and family ran the marathon too, including Adam Fergus (4:42:45), and Jason Manns (5:29:56). (Charlie Capen finished the half marathon.)
Cast members, including Capen, and others helped push Rachel Miner in her wheelchair for the first few miles, after which she left the course to help at the Random Acts water station. She was later transported back to the finish line area to rejoin her group, a spokesperson from the Seattle Marathon Association told Runner’s World.

“We’ve got a bad feeling about this...But with your help, our bad idea can do a lot of good,” the Crowdrise page reads. And that it did: The cast members pledged to match donations up to $100,000. So far, the team has raised just over $116,000.
