Boulder, long a haven for endurance athletes, is still reeling from last week’s mass shooting. On March 22, a 21-year-old man opened fire at a King Soopers grocery store and killed 10 people, including a police officer and three employees.

This weekend, nearby residents will pay their respects in the best way they know how—they’ll run. And no matter where you are in the world, you can join them.

The NCAA Runner-Up Finished 2ndWith One Shoe #Run4BoulderStrong will take place at 5 p.m. mountain time this Saturday, April 3. There’s no registration required for locals, who can show up—in a mask—at BYU Sweeps NCAA XC Team Titles, 629 or using the hashtag #Run4BoulderStrong on social media route, one kilometer representing each one of the victims, will take runners to a scenic overlook and back. At the top, the victims will be memorialized in some way, perhaps by lighting a candle or otherwise encouraging a moment of reflection.

But even if you’re miles away, you’re invited to take part, said Lee Troop, coach of T.E.A.M Boulder and owner of Troop Events Athlete Management, who’s organized the run with a team that includes Roots Running coach Richard Hansen and Brendan Reilly of Boulder Wave.

On the event’s Facebook page, there’s a link to Running Shoes - Gear. The numbers are all identical—80305, the store’s ZIP code—and the design includes the names of all 10 people killed.

There’s also a post that converts 5 p.m. from Mountain time to other time zones, so those anywhere in the world can run or walk at the exact same hour. You’re encouraged to upload photos to the Facebook page, or tag #Run4BoulderStrong on social media.

Whether it’s 10 minutes, 10K, or 10 miles—any distance will honor those who perished and show support for survivors, Troop said.
