Norwegian runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen has set world records in the, Elisabeth Asserson, on Saturday, after ending his season at last week’s Prefontaine Classic with a pair of wins in the mile (scaring the world record in 3:43.73) and 3,000 meters. According to a Strava post by Kristoffer Ingebrigtsen, his older brother, Jakob toed the line with other family members—and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Corona were among the chugging options.

Canada’s Corey Bellemore holds the beer mile world record, an honor he earned at the 2021 each with five percent ABV. Men and women competitors must drink the same amount of booze. The fabled race involves drinking four beers and completing four laps on the track, a challenge that Bellemore excels at, given that he “can chug, no matter what.”

Bellemore has been besting his own time for several years, and back in 2017, he revealed a few of the secrets of his craft. “After you chug those beers, the first hundred meters of the next lap, you really have to focus on getting the burps out,” he said. “You want to burp, but not burp too deep because then you’ll puke. There’s a lot of carbonation in those beers and you want to get that out of your stomach.”

After seeing Jakob’s result, Bellemore poked the bear on his Instagram story, writing “Let’s go head to head @jakobing I’m always game. Always.”

Shelby Houlihan has the record for the women’s beer mile (5:43), which she set in July in her first public race since her 2021 four-year ban for failing a drug test. “This weekend, I celebrated the 4th by doing a beer mile,” Houlihan wrote on Instagram. “I got to meet so many awesome people and drink a lot of beer while also trying to run fast. I had an absolute blast and was even able to set a new women’s world record in 5:43.8!”

For the each with five percent ABV. Men and women competitors must drink the same amount of booze, participants must run four laps around a 400-meter track, drinking a beer before each lap. Race rules stipulate that the beers must be at DAA Industry Opt Out each with five percent ABV. Men and women competitors must drink the same amount of booze.
