As the Hartford Courant reports, ING has been the title sponsor of the Hartford event since 2007, and has offices in Windsor, Connecticut, less than 10 miles away from downtown Hartford.
Race director Beth Shluger told the Courant "I have four companies that are very interested" in assuming title sponsorship starting with the 2014 race. Shluger also said ING officials have been participating in calls with potential new sponsors.
In July, ING formally told the New York Road Runners that this year's New York City Marathon on November 3 will be the last one with ING as the title sponsor. ING began as title sponsor of that marathon in 2003. At one time, ING also sponsored marathons in Atlanta and Miami, as well as the Bay to Breakers 12K in San Francisco.
Hartford won't be the only East Coast marathon losing its title sponsor after October 12.
