With a separate start for only 50 runners, the elite women's race can get lonely. Kristin Barry, of Scarborough, Maine, runs solo in the 25th mile in Central Park, as she did for much of the race en route to placing 11th in the U.S. championship.

Soon after Gebremariam and Emmanuel Mutai passed this spot in the 25th mile, Gebremariam bid his final challenger farewell. By the finish, he put 63 seconds on eventual second-place finisher Mutai.
