The Experience
Hudson River Park, built on 550 acres of old, unused piers near West Street in downtown Manhattan, is the perfect place for a shakeout run before the NYC Marathon. It’s also a draw for native New Yorkers looking for a respite from city life. With a five-mile waterfront path, the green space boasts views of Lady Liberty and One World Trade Center. “You can see the whole, big skyline of the city,” says Herndon.
Going Long
To extend the run, head north on the Hudson River Greenway for nine miles to link up with Fort Washington Park, Fort Tyron Park, and Inwood Hill Park.
Sweet Treat
Finish your run at Big Gay Ice Cream in the West Village for soft serve flavors like Salty Pimp—vanilla ice cream topped with dulce de leche and sea salt then dipped in chocolate.
