Kara Goucher

Kara Goucher has had a long, decorated running career—as a runner and as a vocal advocate for the sport who has appealed to her fans. Another reason she is a fan favorite is because she’s not afraid to appear vulnerable and emotional when she’s struggled as an athlete.

Kara’s many accomplishments include a bronze in the 10,000 meters at the 2007 World Championships, and that same year she beat Paula Radcliffe at the Great North Run, a half marathon in England. Her time of 66:57 is the fastest half marathon ever run by an American woman. (It doesn't count as the U.S. record because of the course's point-to-point, net-downhill profile.)

Along with two Olympics appearances, she’s switched coaches, had a son, joined the Oiselle racing team, and dealt with injuries—like all of us have at some point.

And in 2014, she started her Podium retreats, a weekend of running and wellness for women ... a retreat that our interviewer Tish Hamilton was lucky enough to attend.

On the episode to answer a handful of our favorites is shoes and gear editor Jeff Dengate, who knows a ton about every style of running shoe. In fact, if you’re following Jeff on Twitter and Instagram, then you know he’s currently challenging himself to run in a different pair of shoes every day, for 365 days.
