What’s the most rewarding part of running for you?
The feeling after you finish your run is amazing to me. The point where you feel like you can’t go any further and you prove your body wrong by pushing through. I always feel so accomplished afterward. I use running as a stress reliever. It is very therapeutic. It has helped me more than any medicine I’ve ever taken.
What is your routine.
I started last July weighing in at 232 pounds. I had just came back from vacation and wasn’t happy with myself. I was also not in a good place mentally. I decided to sign up for a gym and contacted my sister and brother-in-law (he is a personal trainer) for some tips and pointers. They gave me a meal and exercise plan. I stuck with that for a while before I started branching off and doing my own thing. I realized I enjoyed the running part of the workouts the most and started doing more and more of it. I exercised and stuck to my meal plan, and here I am now at 164 pounds with the best mental health I’ve ever had in my life.
What is the secret to your weight loss success?
I feel like I am addicted to the results. I remember when I first started, I was scared to weigh in because I feared I hadn’t lost anything. When I first stepped on and saw a difference, it just clicked in my mind. I’ve been hooked ever since.

I just keep in mind that I didn’t come this far for nothing. I remind myself how much better I feel inside and out about myself, and that is enough to keep me going. Your body doesn’t understand excuses. Gotta keep pushing!

What are your current short and long-term goals?
When I first started out, my goal was to make it to 200 pounds. Then it was 180. My current goal is 160, which I am very close to. After that, I plan to go to 150. I just want to keep working hard and see where it takes me.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. When I started, I heard a lot of reasons why I shouldn’t have the goals I have, but the only thing that really matters is why you should!
