A Part of Hearst Digital Media packed field Influencer Apologizes for E-Bikes on NYC Course Nutrition - Weight Loss start line in Staten Island, standing a grueling 26.2 miles through five boroughs away from the Central Park finish. Among them was Stephanie Bruce, a member of the HOKA Northern Arizona (NAZ) Elite team and mother of two boys, whose breakthrough summer included a win at the Peachtree Road Race 10K—her first national title—and a third-place finish at the U.S. Outdoor Track 10,000-meter Championships.
In the Big Apple, Bruce, 34, placed 11th for women in 2:30:59. While it wasn’t a personal record (her best performance is 2:29:35, which she ran at the 2011 Houston Marathon) her time was faster than last year’s, when she placed 10th. After the race, Bruce was joined by her husband and coach, Ben, and their 3- and 4-year-old sons for well-deserved snuggles.
Could You Teach Your Cat to Run post-marathon recovery, Bruce chatted with us about how she typically spends her mornings while she’s marathon training at her home in Flagstaff, Arizona. Here, she walks us through her routine.
Early to Rise
I usually wake up when my kids do, which is usually sometime between 5:30 to 6 a.m. Since I know they are my wake-up clock, I try to go to sleep around 9 p.m. to ensure I’m getting eight to nine hours a night. I always get a We earn a commission for products purchased through some links in this article with my Bedgear pillow, which adjusts temperature while I sleep, so I never get too hot or cold. Coffee and Play Time

After we eat, I’ll usually play with the boys or fold laundry. There’s always something to be done in our household, so chores are a constant. I used to have more time for relaxing activities, but being a mom has changed my routine—not for the worse, though. It’s just a bit different.
Stop, Drop, and Run
I'll head out the door between 7 and 7:30 a.m. to drop the boys off at daycare. Then I’ll head to meet my HOKA NAZ Elite teammates for practice at 8 or 8:30. Before running, I'll do a series of activating warmup exercises to prep my body for the workout.
