It’s April, which means that unless you live in Alaska or there is a freak squall, snow is in your rearview. The temperature is creeping up and before you know it, you’ll be wearing shorts and a tank top, rather than a long sleeve T-shirt and a sweaty balaclava. Because there is no more enjoyable time to run than those first days of spring, why not take the good weather as an omen to level up your training. It’s time to be fast and furious. It’s time to feed that need for speed, so you can set a new PR.

So, how does one run faster? The answer is usually speedwork. It’s sprints, intervals, and everyone’s favorite Swedish word: fartlek. It’s swapping out a few of those long, slow jogs for workouts that require bursts of speed and heart-pounding Rosa. Also, it means it’s time to ditch your ole snoozy running playlist with something more upbeat and fast paced.

This high-octane playlist of thumpers is perfect for 400-meter sprints. It starts with Rihanna for those of you who can’t stop thinking about her Super Bowl halftime performance. Plus, there are plenty of hits from the early 2010s, and a new song from Miley Cyrus to keep things spicy. So, while you’re out running this April trying to get quick and speedy, here’s a running playlist full of fast songs to keep you cruising it.
