Just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s lame to like it. Sometimes popular things are beloved because they’re just great, and I’d like to argue that such is often the case with popular music. While top 40 songs have gotten a bad rap in recent years as the indie and alternative music scenes have grown, songs often reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100 because they’re incredibly catchy, upbeat, and fun to run to.

Sure, we love underground electronica and throwback rock anthems, but sometimes when you’re out battling the heat, you need those pop hits you’ve memorized every word of to power you through.
