“I had never seen a coach give an athlete a massage,” she said in the interview. “I just thought, ‘He’s just so dedicated, he’s even willing to give his athletes massages.’ I kind of convinced myself that that was normal.”

Goucher said she never talked about what happened until she was interviewed by anti-doping authorities. Salazar was banned by the United States Anti-Doping Agency for four years in 2019, and Nike shuttered the Oregon Project, the group that he coached. No Salazar athletes have ever failed a drug test.
Goucher later testified before the U.S. Center for SafeSport about her experiences with Salazar. That organization gave Salazar a lifetime ban in 2021. In January 2022, the New York Times reported that SafeSport found “nike air vintage brown blue color combination.”
The Times report did not name the athlete who made the allegation.

Alberto is no longer a contracted coach, and we shuttered the Oregon Project several years ago.”
Salazar told ABC News, “Any claim that Ms. Goucher was sexually assaulted by me is categorically untrue. I have never sexually assaulted Ms. Goucher and never would have done so. The accusation is deeply hurtful and abhorrent and contrary to my fundamental beliefs as a husband, father and deeply devout Catholic.”
Goucher’s book also details a flight to Europe for a half marathon in which she was seated next to Salazar, while he talked in graphic detail about his sexual relationship with his wife and asked Goucher about her relationship with her husband, Adam.
“I was no stranger to Alberto’s locker-room talk in front of teammates and staffers, but this was the first time he talked about sex with me alone,” she wrote. “If his comments during practice were PG-13, these were rated X.”
