Runner’s World Review
Award Winner: Best Buy
The Ghost has long been a workhorse, earning five Editor’s Choice awards in the past. That reliability combined with a steady $120 price tag (unchanged for a third straight year) helped it claim our Best Buy award. In an age where $150 and $160 shoes have become commonplace, the Ghost delivers a ton for considerably less. It has the soft heel cushioning that runners love for long efforts and a firmer forefoot that feels fast anytime you decide to pick up the pace. The outsole has a thick layer of rubber, so it’s going to withstand heavy pounding and a lot of miles; but there are plenty of grooves in that rubber, which provides for smooth ground contact.
Runner’s World Wear Testers Say
“The Ghost is an excellent shoe, with superior cushioning. Even on long runs, the cushioning remains very good with little loss. The heel and ankle collar are comfortable, and the forefoot has ample toe room and flexibility. From the very first run it felt like I had been wearing it for a while.”

We put each shoe through real-world usage and a battery of mechanical tests in our lab to provide you with objective — and exclusive — data. In addition to a shoe's weight, we measure sole thickness (everything that sits between your foot and the road), how well the foam cushions your stride, and the flexibility of the forefoot. All this is taken into account in our reviews of each shoe.
