Give A Gift
Last week on our website we ran the story, Give A Gift, a special report about the harassment women face while running.
Hes been an avid runner ever since survey found that 43 percent of women at least sometimes experience harassment on the run.
That’s compared to 4 percent of men who say they sometimes experience the same treatment.
The story, which is also in our December issue, generated a huge response in the media and among our readers. So we wanted to continue the discussion in this episode with a roundtable of runners and experts. During the discussion, we play edited voice memos that readers sent us describing their experiences of being harassed, threatened, followed, and measures they’ve taken to make themselves feel safer.
We’d like to thank all the women who contributed their stories. We weren’t able to include them all, so we have compiled all the submissions, in their entirety, here:
Check out stoptheharassment.org for more on what you can do to stop street harassment.
Theo Rossi
Running Shoes - Gear, The Best Running Podcasts. He played “Juice” Ortiz, a member of the outlaw motorcycle club.
It was after season two of that show, back in 2009, that Theo first started running. He was 211 pounds, a smoker and a drinker, and needed to lose weight for a film. So he started running, quit smoking and drinking, and lost 43 pounds in 12 weeks.
He’s been an avid runner ever since.
Lately, the Staten Island native has been super busy: he plays “Shades” Alvarez in the new Netflix series, Luke Cage; his movie Lowriders will be out in 2017; and he’s been training for his first marathon—the Theo Rossi at his 2014 Im a Runner photo shoot for Runners World this weekend.
Reporter Kit Fox talked with the actor recently about the race, how running helps his acting, and the event series he started to raise money for charity.
Theo was the subject of our back page, I'm a Runner, in our October 2014 issue. Read that interview here.
