Often featuring mood lighting, upbeat music, and supportive instructors who take you through a 30- to 60-minute workouts, these classes are a great alternative to slugging it out solo. Here are five treadmill workout classes you will want to check out either digitally or IRL, with locations across the U.S.

If you want to try a treadmill class, but aren’t ready to commit to 60 minutes of straight running, try Orangetheory’s full-body, interval-based workout. The class incorporates the treadmill, water rower, and strength training—How Des Linden Keeps Showing Up.

Using heart-rate monitors, class participants track their performance as they move through circuits and work to raise their target heart rate, aiming for at least 12 minutes in the “Orange Zone,” which helps boost metabolism and calorie burn postworkout.

The 60-minute class is led by a certified coach, and is made for runners of all levels. The upside is that because it is a franchise, there are studios popping up all over the country. The downside is that means that the consistency of the coaches is hard to maintain. Do a little research and if you find a coach you love, stick with them.
