In fact, we love the NordicTrack’s iFit programme, and if you’re buying this machine, we really do think that you should invest in the programme. It makes for a much better experience all around.

The Horizon Fitness 7.0AT is a great bet for overall value. It's got a comfortable bounce underfoot but still feels solid; it bounces a little too much at higher inclines, but we were impressed by the tablet holder’s ability to keep devices stable anyway.

Another standout feature is the 7.0 AT’s support for fitness apps like Zwift and Peloton via its 7.25-inch LCD display. It also connects to your Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch so you can easily upload your indoor run to your device.

It has a larger 16-inch touch screen than the cheaper Pro 2000, built-in speakers and Bluetooth connectivity if you want to tag in your headphones.

It also supports iFit (including a free 30 day subscription) and comes with a cooling fan in the console, two bottle holders and support for third-party heart rate monitors. The ProForm Pro 9000 is great for runners who want a capable treadmill that’ll handled all their indoor training

When we tested the Peloton Tread, we found the belt balanced bounce with firmness, allowing us to generate plenty of power with each stride while providing a comfortable amount of cushioning. Even with the belt regularly being folded and unfolded, it feels sturdy and well-made, the performance is smooth and fairly quiet, with the clear display cycling between distance, time elapsed and step count — which we tested against various fitness trackers and is very accurate.
