Join In, the London 2012 legacy charity has rounded up a host of Britain’s sports stars to launch the Join In Summer Relay. A nationwide tour of community sports clubs will take places throughout August and will watch Commonwealth athletes get involved with sports clubs across the country.

The relay commences on the 5th August with a 1 x 400m medley. 10 years on from winning gold British relay legends Campbell, Devonish, Lewis-Francis and Gardener will be reunited to lend a hand alongside incredible volunteers at Battersea Summer Scheme, a multi-sport initiative for disadvantaged children in London before hitting the track for the race.

The purpose of the relay is to give sports persons a chance to go back to the club they started at and to work with volunteers to give something back to the sports stars of the future.

More names are to be announced but include two-time gold medallist, Liz McColgan. Who will help out at parkrun, in Tollcross. Other athletes participating include: gymnast Louis Smith, swimmer Rebecca Adlington, triathlete and iron-woman Chrissie Wellington, decathlete Dean Macey, middle and long-distance runner David Moorcroft, middle distance runner, Dame Kelly Holmes, sprint and huddler Kriss Akabusi, Paralympic gold medalist Richard Whitehead and former rugby international Josh Lewsey.
