Elite runner and research radiographer Hayley Carruthers showed what it means to finish London Marathon as the 26 year old fell to her knees after sprinting down the mall towards the finish arch.
Carruthers then dragged herself over the line before receiving medical treatment and being taken away on a stretcher.
Despite having to crawl over the line, she ran a new PB, finishing in just 02:33:59, 15 minutes behind women’s race winner, Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei.
Hayley later posted the below picture on twitter showing the bandages on here knees, with the caption, "Today I learnt how NOT to run a marathon! 🤪 #londonmarathon at least I PB’d ..."
We wish Hayley a speedy recovery, especially as unlike some elites, she doesn't have the luxury of a day off after the marathon...
