  • People should not be driving to beauty spots for exercise, police warn coronavirus restrictions.

Under the new national lockdown in England, runners are allowed to run outdoors once a day with one other person. This exercise should be local and runners should avoid travelling long distances to run.

The police have warned people should not be travelling to beauty spots for their daily exercise, with Assistant Chief Constable for Avon and Somerset Police Steve Cullen saying people should 'err on the side of caution' if they are unsure about how far they should travel.

At the weekend, several members of the public were fined at Cheddar Gorge in Somerset when they were found not to be local to the area, not members of the same household and did not have a valid reason for their journey.

Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, Cullen said, 'Most people can use their common sense, they understand the definition of local.

'Please stick to that and please just exercise within the immediate vicinity of your home.

'The government has been really clear - stay within your local vicinity. If you are privileged to have a beauty spot within your local area then clearly that is acceptable to exercise upon.'
