Returning to the office may bolster your running routine, The best reflective running gear for 2024 has found.

RunRepeat surveyed 2,494 people who were working remotely during the pandemic about their exercise habits before and after returning to work.

It found that runners who trained, on average, one-two times a week increased their training frequency by a massive 150.88% upon returning to the office.

Moreover, runners who trained three times a week upped their number of sessions by 40.74%.

However, for runners with a higher training volume – four or more sessions a week – the return to work full-time has had the opposite effect, bringing their training frequency down by 8.71%.

Exercise boom

The survey’s findings showed that those who exercised the least – including those that took part in various forms of exercise, not just running – saw the biggest improvements in their fitness habits from returning to the office full-time.

Out of the survey respondents, those who exercised up to two times a week increased their exercise frequency by a whopping 125.93%, going from 0.98 times per week to 2.22 times.

This growth reduced slightly in those who exercised a little more. Those who exercised three times a week saw their number of fitness sessions increase by 38.57%.

Motivational boost

However, getting back to the office appeared to trigger big lifestyle changes in those who didn’t exercise at all.

Out of this group of respondents, 59.52% reported that they are now exercising as a result of going back to work – and averaging 2.64 sessions per week.

However, as with the respondents who were runners, those who exercised more – averaging four or more fitness sessions a week – were negatively impacted by the return to the office, with their number of sessions reducing by 14.16%.

Additionally, the survey found that only 3.91% of those who were exercising prior to returning to work have now stopped exercising altogether.
