Dating back to the original Air Jordan releases there were typically only three to four colorways released throughout the entire year of that signature shoe. Nowadays, we are generally seeing 10 to 20 different colorways of one signature shoe which keeps it hard to keep track of. And that’s not even including limited and player exclusive releases.
Air Jordan 4 “Tour Yellow”

Then when you count how many different times a colorway has retro’d, you easily get into the thirty range of releases.

Some people say it’s cool to see so many different colorways release, because if gives us a chance to cop something for and new. Then you have the old-school sneakerheads that only like original releases and just shake their heads at all these new flavors that are releasing.

If you ask me I think a brand new colorway release should be based on a story from Michael Jordan’s past (or whomever the signature shoe is, but in this case we are using the Air Jordan 4 as the example), and not just an extra colorway. Which goes back to the first paragraph above by stating all these extra colorways get hard to keep track of.
