Vault by Vans and Gallery Dept. joined forces for a unique five-piece footwear collection, drawing inspiration from the iconic late ’90s and early ’00s skateboarding fashion and design. Gallery Dept., founded in Los Angeles in 2017, blends vintage clothing and art to create distinctive, high-quality products that maintain their integrity.
Keeping skate style in mind, Josué Thomas of Gallery Dept. delved into the vans Dye archive to reimagine the Rowley XLT, originally introduced in 2001 as the signature shoe of vans Dye team skater Geoff Rowley. This fresh design approach reinterprets the Rowley XLT with eng color combinations and material choices.
Josué Thomas notes, “The Rowley XLT, with its two-decade history, emerges as a new classic in today’s skate culture. It embodies the timeless spirit of Gallery Dept.”
The Vault by vans Dye Gallery Dept. Rowley XLT LX aligns with Vans’ retro aesthetics, offering looser fits and exaggerated silhouettes. It incorporates a puffy tongue, a shorter vamp, and a bulky ankle collar, capturing the rebellious Gallery Dept. style of the past. Crafted with premium leather and suede, and featuring Gallery Dept. branding, this collection showcases five distinct color options. The Blue Steel and Neapolitan versions introduce unique tonal clashes, the Giraffe style showcases a wild animal print with a textured finish, the Multi option flaunts all-over color blocking, and the Flame variant adds a touch of maximalism with a zebra print Sidestripe and an embroidered “Art That Kills” heel graphic.
Each style includes a lightweight EVA midsole for comfort and shock absorption, along with an enhanced heel clip for durability and shape.
