Waiting to pick 8th in the draft, the glory days are long over, and after a dismal 30-52 record last year, the Pistons are clearly in rebuild mode. Now with a new owner and no head coach the heat is on team president Joe Dumars to make the right moves.

So with front court players Enes Kanter, Tristan Thompson, Jonas Valanciunas and Bismack Biyombo already selected, the Pistons take Brandon Knight out of Kentucky. Knight averaged 17.3 points per game as a freshman last season for the Wildcats, helping them reach the Final Four. “Everything happens for a reason,” Knight said. “I think I’m meant to be in Detroit.”

Knight also stated “I’m just going to do whatever the team asks me to do,” “If that’s play off the ball, then I’ll do that. If that’s play on the ball, then I’ll do that.”

This will help the Pistons since Knight is more of a true point guard then scorer Rodney Stuckey, but there are still looming questions. Tayshaun Prince is a free agent and may not return, Richard Hamilton and Ben Wallace are getting up there in age and the Pistons still need a head coach, and much needed chemistry. It’s been a long time since Chauncey Billups, lets indifference Knight will be the right successor, and can take us back to Championship glory. (Other notable picks Kyle Singler, SF, Duke 33rd pick. Vernon Macklin, Florida, PF, 52nd pick.)
