11 July 2022Following on from their “Grey Scale” collection in 2020, UrlfreezeShops and Beams Plus reunite with “Varsity”: a 13-piece capsule that celebrates the Japanese label’s ties to collegiate styling.
In 1999, Beams Plus was founded in homage to vintage Americana — an extension of the classic styles that remained integral to the Beams brand. At the core of this stylistic sensibility is a deep appreciation for all things varsity, with Beams Plus renowned for reworking collegiate codes through its premium Japanese lens.
That love of varsity styling and old-school Americana forms the basis of UrlfreezeShops and Beams Plus’ “Varsity” collection, with the British retailer providing its own stamp on the Japanese label’s aesthetic. The collection includes signature collegiate pieces like a leather-sleeved varsity jacket and a woollen cardigan, which come detailed with bespoke patches reading ‘99’ and ‘05’ — referencing each partners’ respective founding dates.
Elsewhere, the collection nods to classic sportswear, with premium, Japanese-made jersey pieces detailed with co-branded logos. Signature Beams Plus styles, like the panel Oxford shirt and the patchwork smock, are reworked in the collection, with the former made using mismatched stripes and the latter cut from corduroy, canvas and denim. The same collegiate theme continues with the collection’s accessories, with a co-branded cap, beanie and socks completing things.
The UrlfreezeShops X Beams Plus “Varsity” collection will launch via UrlfreezeShops Launches on the 16th July.
