When it comes to sneaker designers, few are as capable of capturing the zeitgeist quite like Salehe Bembury. His ongoing partnership with New Balance has cemented that, creating sneakers that honour the footwear label’s signature codes while propelling things in a completely new, and hyper-futuristic, direction.

The two reunite to continue the “Universal Communication” collection that first debuted last year, releasing another two colourways from the 574 YURT pack. The two sneakers — one in a bold, white and pink colourway, the other in a more muted black and purple — retain that experimental, outdoor-inspired construction of previous pairs. The uppers are cut from hairy suede and breathable mesh, joined by a super-chunky sole unit — combining ABZORB SBS and RollBar plate technology — underfoot. The most notable detail comes by way of the heels, thanks to a jutting attachment that functions as a whistle.
