First look at the Godfather of goth's latest collection
Unveiled this morning to an impressive audience of international fashion press and buyers, Rick Owens presented his vision for AW18 in Paris.
Dubbed 'SISYPHUS' - the Greek God of Ephyra who, as a result of his braggadocious and deceitful temperament, was sentenced eternally to roll a boulder up a hill only for it to fall to the bottom as he reaches the summit - could this collection be Owens commentary on the state of the current fashion system? A system which has come under increasing scrutiny in recent years for placing speed and product volume above innovation and creativity. Famed in classics for the futile laboriousness of his damnation, Sisyphus appears to be Rick Owens' metaphor for his sense of futility delivering collections at break neck speeds season after season.
The collection itself contained all of the most revered elements of Rick Owens' interminable DNA. Aplomb with avant-garde silhouettes iterated in an atmospheric palette of neutrals, the collection carried with it a sense of the self-contained; the models swathed or entombed in high coverage, layered outerwear. Despite its dose of conceptual pieces, overall the show delivered a well-developed array of highly wearable streetwear grails sure to sate Owens' legion of international cultists when they hit stores later this year.
