Maharishi Journey Into the Heart of Darkness for SS21

Drawing inspiration from Joseph Conrad's seminal novel and Francis Ford Coppola's "Apocalypse Now", Maharishi share their SS21 look book.

Intertwining a plethora of rich influences, London-based brand Maharishi present their SS21 collection, bridging the gap between a conceptual approach to streetwear, military apparel and a pacifist ideological outlook.

Reproduced with organic yarns, 60's era military uniforms and Eastern-inspired silhouettes are embellished with a variety of embroidered motifs, branded appliqué and logos. Calling attention to the collection's core influences, functional and technical garments are recontexualised with references to Joseph Conrad's infamous 1899 novel "Heart of Darkness" and Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 psychedelic trip in the hell of the Vietnam war, "Apocalypse Now", while the phrase "darkness cannot drive out the heart of darkness; only light can do that" - a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. - adds a further political element to Maharishi's ethos.

Continuing efforts towards producing sustainable clothing, Maharishi utilise organic fabrics, natural dyeing processes and textiles that are produced from entirely recycled waste material. Veg-dyed nylon, crushed hemp and premium organic cotton are used, ensuring a unique and forward-thinking approach to eco-conscious clothing production and design.
