HOLUBAR is a label with a rich heritage rooted in the great outdoors. Prior to founding the brand in 1946, Roy and Alice Holubar were avid explorers of their home city, Boulder: an area known for its vast landscape located in the foothills of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. To help them make their time spent on this difficult terrain easier, the two slowly began acquiring military surplus — a passion that would eventually blossom into a basement-based business supplying garb to like-minded enthusiasts.

From there on, the label began to delve deeper into the world of outdoor clothing and accessories, creating its own jackets, rucksacks and sleeping bags through pioneering the use of nylon — a then-revolutionary material — and combining it with down. The label’s popularity grew even further with the invention of the Mountain Parka, both thanks to its revolutionary, outdoor-focused construction and its feature in Michael Cimono’s 1978 film, The Deer Hunter — an appearance which would lead to the jacket’s name mirroring the film’s.

The label’s latest collection celebrates that rich heritage, with an array of garments built to thrive in extreme environments. Take the Boulder L177 Parka Jacket, for instance — it’s made using laminated, weatherproof cotton from Italian textile mill Impresa Tessile, then padded with down for superior warmth. The label’s famous Deer Hunter jacket is given a feature, too, which is designed to look just like the original piece, only it’s updated using the same laminated cotton as the Boulder Parka.
