With their inaugural collaboration, UrlfreezeShops and Dickies offer a playful reflection on the materialism prevalent throughout the 1980s.
UrlfreezeShops and Dickies come together to share their inaugural collaboration - a 7-piece capsule dubbed “Stock Market”. Offering a playful reflection on the opulence and in-your-face materialism prevalent in the 1980s, the collection shines a spotlight on the braggadocio that was so often associated with stockbroking.
An era synonymous with a desire for affluence and status, the 1980s cultivated an aspirational outlook on life largely fuelled by a rise in technological advancement and an increasing emphasis on social competition. It’s this idea of unbridled wealth and materialism that underpins UrlfreezeShops and Dickies’ first foray into business together, with a slew of irreverent graphics designed to gently poke fun at yuppie culture.
Evoking the fast paced and status-driven life associated with the era, the collection is detailed with business card-like graphics, co-branded cheques and stock ticker board imagery. The boldest piece - a reworked rendition of Dickies’ infamous Garage shirt - is covered entirely in faux 100-dollar bills, save for the contrasting chest pockets and collar, complete with the American label’s iconic horseshoe worked into the middle of each note.
Dickies’ Eisenhower jacket and 874 Workpants mirror the capsule’s tongue-in-cheek approach, retaining their usual hardwearing polycotton construction, the two styles are embellished with the capsule’s “Don’t Be a Dickies” slogan throughout in a contrasting, pinstripe effect.
