Isabel Marant’s Menswear SS22 Collection: Classic Utility Meets Laidback Parisian Styling

With her SS22 menswear collection, Isabel Marant draws inspiration from classic sports and utility wear, reworking them through use of bold colours and vibrant patterns.

Few labels epitomise laidback Parisian styling quite like Isabel Marant. Since founding her eponymous brand in 1995, the designer has cemented her position as one of the frontrunners in contemporary fashion — largely thanks to her steadfast dedication to creating clothing that’s approachable, playful and reflects the type of garments she would wish to wear herself.

The key fundamentals of Parisian fashion are always present in the designer’s collections, like premium quality, refinement and luxury, though things always reflect her laidback and playful sensibility; Marant has been renowned for pirouetting between luxury and bohemia since ’95, something which has permeated every collection since. That approach is immediately clear with the designer’s SS22 menswear collection; Marant draws heavily from outerwear and sportswear, twisting classic styles through use of bold patterns and colours inspired by sun-soaked climates.

The Marlon jacket, for instance, is made using a fleece fabric to nod to heritage hiking garb, only it’s detailed with ribbed knitting at the lining and covered in an ikat pattern to nod to Marant’s penchant for the bold. Hoodies, meanwhile, are crafted in Portugal using cotton blends and covered in eye-catching monogram patterns, adhering to the retro-inspired aesthetic of the capsule.
